Lets talk telephones

We understand that, as a business, you want increased functionality at a reduced cost. You want something that’s reliable and adaptable. And with the trend towards flexible working, having a phone system that you can literally ‘take home’ with you could be the difference between surviving and thriving.

Business telephone options are changing fast, and whilst the internet is the future, we shall of course continue to help our customers with traditional telephone systems until that network is switched off in 2025.

Internet phones

Soon all voice calls will be made using the internet. These telephone systems are sometimes called cloud-based, hosted or VoIP (Voice over IP). All refer to the ability to make a voice call via the internet. The main benefit of these systems is the ability to make and receive calls on your business number from anywhere, so your business line is no longer tied to your office… How?… The system sits in a network data centre (known as the cloud) rather than on your company’s premises. You make and receive calls through your internet connection, which then connects the call across to the other phone networks and mobile devices.

How a cloud phone system works

Cloud phone systems can have traditional looking handsets or work directly from a computer using a headset; they can even work via an app on your mobile phone. Cloud systems come with many benefits.
Using a cloud phone system does not change who you can make calls to or receive calls from.

Cost reduction

With cloud phones you get a sophisticated system without the maintenance cost of a physical switchboard and with no capital outlay. The larger the system, the greater the savings. But even a single user can see savings by moving from an ISDN line (traditional style) to a VoIP system. We offer great monthly call packages to suit your specific usage, many of which include free calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers and mobile numbers. You can also easily manage your own calls and facilities, a welcome saving if you are migrating from a PBX system.

Additional features

Cloud based telephony offers a range of features that were previously only associated with more complex phone systems, like a PBX switchboard. Give your callers a strong first impression of your business through features such as;

  • Call handling/forwarding/queuing
  • Call recording
  • CRM/PC integration
  • Hold music
  • Mobile apps
  • Plus many more…

Scalability

A cloud phone system can range in size from a single user to unlimited users across multiple sites. Whether you are growing fast, consolidation or contracting, you can easily adapt the solution to change with your business.

Flexibility

Users can access all the features of cloud systems whether in the office, on the road or at home. All you need is the mobile app – or simply plug your office handset into a router, anywhere in the world, and you’re good to go! You also have the ability to make additions and changes to your system, instantly, from anywhere.

Reliability and security

Cloud systems operate via the internet, and they work in a very similar way to a mobile device. Just as signal affects your mobile phone, the reliability of a cloud phone depends on your business broadband connection. A strong and secure internet connection means a strong and secure phone system. Because the fibre data network is much newer, a hosted system is actually more reliable than a traditional copper wire system, which is vulnerable to damage and faults.

With a hosted system you can also be confident that there are built-in business continuity and disaster recovery features, with call re-routing options and the ability to use your business phone line from any mobile device via the app.

Future-proof

You will receive all new features and updates for your cloud system digitally, so whenever they become available you get them in an instant.

FAQ

From September 2023 there will be no new installations of Single PSTN Lines or ISDN. At the end of December 2025, all new and existing fixed lines will be switched off, and services withdrawn.

Yes. The best installation option will depend on the system you choose. For simpler, ‘plug & play’ style systems, an engineer is not required. These smaller systems run through a Wi-Fi dongle, so you can easily set them up yourself! Clear and simple video guides or a friendly call with one of our tech support team mean you’ll be up and running in no time.

For more complex systems, we can arrange an engineer to come and install the system for you.

Reduced cost is one of the primary benefits of a cloud phone system. Each system is bespoke to your business, so cost will depend on your requirements. Request a quote and we are sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Absolutely, they can either take the physical phone home with them to plug into their router or they can login to the office system through their internet enabled computer or via the mobile app.

From 2026 all voice calls will be made over the internet. If you currently use handsets on the traditional network then you will need new handsets when you switch to cloud telephony. You also have the option to use a headset plugged into your internet enabled computers or have an app on your mobile device in which case you would not require new handsets.
